Republic of Korea Samoa Association

"a home away from home"

The Very Beginning

The Republic of Korea Samoa Association affectionately known as ROKSA was created shortly after a successful Asian-Pacific participation from the local Samoan community.  At that time, senior members of the Samoan community responsible for a successful performance of Samoan cultural dances and cuisine were Tui & Anita Nua, Leuila Alaimaleata, Faresa & Lina Tu'uao, Jackie & Thomas Gibbons, Tauapai Laupola, Sam Iakopo, Suianoa & Sue Sapatu, Tumau Alefosio, Fa'anati Mapuoletuli, Martin & Shelly Mata'utia, and Easter & Tom Bruce.  After riding the success of the FIRST Aganu'u Samoa, this group gathered around a table in the Main Post Club back in 2004 to discuss the future of this new venture.  Discussions led to a mutual agreement that this newly formed Samoan association would serve as a support system for Samoan service members stationed in the republic which has become ROKSA's motto of "a home away from home."

Funding was a key factor; in order to showcase and perpetuate the Samoan "way of life" for these service members during their tour in Korea, ROKSA needed access to this command's fundraising venues to earn funds to support our goals for these soldiers.  The application process in becoming an official Area II Private Organization was submitted; the rest is history.  Enjoy this video of the 2004 Aganu'u Samoa performance that launched this group of Samoans into the next chapter titled, "ROKSA."
