Republic of Korea Samoa Association

"a home away from home"

The Logo

The original logo was designed by CPT Leuila Alaimaleata who also served as ROKSA's first secretary.  The original logo, although simple, was a true representation of Samoan culture and illustrated a sense of bravery and strength.  The Koreas bordered a tatau design complete with a Fue and a To'oto'o crossing behind the country's outline.  Although short lived, ROKSA is proud to showcase its very first logo created to represent this newly established organization.

NOTE:  The tatau design seen in the above logo is from the talented artwork of tattoo artist Wilson Fitiao.  ROKSA proudly displays his artwork and gives a big "fa'afetai" to Wilson for his approval to showcase his work on this site.  For more information on Wilson Fitiao's work, please visit him at:  http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/7277/wilson_index.html

As a new elected board introduced new ideas for the next year, positive changes were made.  Revolutionary changes affected the logo design hence the new look.  The new logo contains the flags from Samoa and American Samoa positioned side-by-side.  Centered between the two flags is the traditional image of Samoa's measina or treasure:  the Fue, the To'oto'o and the Tanoa.  The Fue represents wisdom, the To'oto'o or staff represents authority and the Tanoa symbolizes service to the chiefs.  Together, these treasured items are used by the chiefs in the Ava ceremony which is one of the highest and most formal rituals of the Samoan culture.  Printed in the outer border of the circle that encompasses the Fue, To'oto'o and Tanoa read the words:  REPUBLIC OF KOREA SAMOA ASSOCIATION.  Ms. Tumau Alefosio is the creator of the logo's new look.

The Coin

The ROKSA coin was created shortly after the logo design was approved as the organization's official logo.  The front side of the coin is simply the ROKSA logo; the back side of the coin is etched in a tapa design with the outline of the Korean peninsula.  The South Korean flag represents the Republic of Korea; the North Korean country is blacked out.  The ROKSA name is arched across the top while the bottom of the coin reads "Ia tafe toto ou ala, ia pouliuli lou tino ma ia malamalama ou mata."

Both sides of the coin is covered with a protective epoxy giving it a glossy shine.  Departing members receive a certificate of appreciation and a coin as a parting memento.
